An engagement is a great reason to book a couples’ photoshoot. Planning a wedding is a mix of emotions, some days you are going to be so excited and others you might feel that everything is a total chaos. What a better way to take a break and enjoy this journey with an engagement photoshoot. Capturing the joyous, delirious love you’re experiencing right now. When you get engaged, a couple’s photoshoot is an incredible way to start your wedding story. If there’s no special reason to celebrate, that’s fine too! A couples’ photo shoot is an opportunity for couples to spend some quality time together and to have fun, you don’t need any special reason for that.

Be yourselves.

Remember, the main goal of a couples’ photo shoot is to have fun. What’s more romantic than two people who love each other sharing an activity that they’re passionate about? Feel free to be as creative as you want. Do you both enjoy listening to music? Sports? Include a component of that in your photo session. Another good point to remember is to interact with each other as if your photographer weren’t there. Laugh and kiss like there is no tomorrow, look at each other’s eyes, touch each other everywhere. Dance like nobody is watching. Make it enjoyable!!

Talk with your photographer about the right time

If you ask someone what the most romantic time of the day is, most of them will say “sunset.” The golden hour sure is a nice time to start or to end a photo shoot, however timing depends widely on location and season. Natural light will make your skin look natural and gorgeous. If you have the flexibility, always pick golden hour for your session.

Styling guides

If you need some outfit ideas I have plenty of them in my styling guide, but it basically comes down to wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. Not a tuxedo guy? Don’t rent one, always in jeans kind of girl? Rock those jeans! Feeling confident and loving exactly what you’ve put on is essential. Consider complementary colors instead of matching outfits. Solid and muted tones are best. Also stay away from busy patterns in your clothing. We want you to be the center of attention and not the clothes you are wearing. In other words, look like yourself, but at your absolute best.

Location for your session

The perfect place is where you can feel at ease. Consider the type of people you are when picking a location. Are you a city couple or would you rather have a picnic at the beach or even hiking a mountain? Your photos should be captured in a place that hold some meaning for both of you. If you are the type of people that like to visit new places (like me) that is a great alternative as well. If you don’t have any location in mind, I can help you find areas that will radiate the ambiance you are looking for.

Posing prompts

Being in front of the camera for some people can be a little overwhelming. I got you!!! I will be there the entire time guiding you and making sure you feel and look stunning. But remember, the most authentic and flattering shots will come when you and your partner are feeling yourselves. More intimate posing could be involved such as holding hands, cuddling, kissing and intense eye contact. Please avoid practicing poses in order to achieve perfection. Perfection is found in the in-between moments. Enjoy the couples’ photoshoot and be present in the moment. This will result in excellent photographs.

Spending quality time together

Finally, couples’ photoshoots should be enjoyable and stress-free. In the end, it’s just about a quality time together. If this is your first time hiring a photographer try to be fully present and enjoy it. The clothes, location and posing are great but they are an addition. The most important thing is capturing those moments in real time with your loved one. Something to look back on and smile together. Laugh, enjoy the moment and you will “forget” the photographer if you focus on having fun together.
